Newspaper clippings illustrated a career that built respect and authority in local and state govern- ment law. e Wicker Classroom filled as 130 friends and colleagues convened at the School of Government on November 30 to wish David Lawrence well. "Many will think of this as David's retire- ment," said emcee and faculty member Greg Allison as he welcomed the assembly. "David, I believe, views this more as moving in a dif- ferent personal direction where he will chan- nel his many energies into a new focus. Not an end, but an exciting transition." Professors Michael Crowell and Laurie Mesibov, as well as Dean Mike Smith, touched on special aspects of David career as it has unfolded and developed over four decades: From new law graduate to the state's foremost authority on maers of local government law and finance.
